How to Make Long Videos That Don’t Feel Long (YouTube Growth Lessons)1 min read

3 lessons I wish I knew:

(Before I started in 2012)

Back then, I thought longer videos = boring videos.

Turns out I was wrong about everything.

After analyzing 500+ videos across my channels…

1) Long-form isn’t about time. It’s about making them lose track of time.

MrBeast is a master of this…

They insert open loops every 2-5 minutes.

1st you need your primary macro loop that opens in the first 20 seconds.

And doesn’t close until the final 15-20% of your video.

2nd Your secondary loops is just about inserting more unanswered questions throughout the video.

3rd you have your Micro Loops…Those are your secret weapon.

They’re the small teases within a single segment that keep people glued ESPECIALLY when you’re deep in one topic.

2) AVD is vanity. Watch hours are sanity.

The algorithm feeds on time, not percentages.

3) Click-through rate gets you discovered. Watch time gets you recommended.

Click through rate can mean clickbait.

Clickbait will decrease watch time.

Less watch time = less viral.

Watch time is the ultimate metric.

This becomes more and more true for me.

Unfortunately…because it has also been the hardest so far.
