My laziest video got 1.2M views.
Here’s what no one told me (but I wish I knew):
It took me 90 minutes to create (from A-Z)
Here’s what happened…
It’s summer.
I want to go to the gym
which closes in 2 hours.
But I wanted to upload a video…
So I quickly created
A presentation (30mins)
Recorded the video (10mins)
Removed the silences (5mins)
Created the thumbnail (15mins)
And posted it.
I went to the gym
Where I looked at the stats
And saw that the video was doing okay.
But something in me told me to change something…
So when I came back from the gym
I re-designed the thumbnail
Made the title more clickable
And the rest is history.
Less then 90 minutes of work.
The video now sits at 1,182,713 views.
What did I learn from this?
4 things, but I will tell you 3.
The belief that one HAS TO spend more hours spend on
– scripting
– recording
– editing
– research
– titles
– thumbnails
– you name it
In order to reach more views…
Is false.
That is what this video proved to me.
In fact I had many other outlier videos that were so quick to create I couldn’t believe it
Like another one that has 300k views and took me less then 2h from A-Z.
But I hear your mind say…
I KNOW THAT ALREADY
So let me give you the sauce
2 BIG reasons I COULD only spend 90 minutes
while getting 1.2m & 300k views
in my very specific, nuanced examples
are the following:
1. Search volume
2. Timing
Here’s what I mean…
I was the FIRST with those videos.
When you are the first,
You DON’T have to be the BEST.
You see?
Maybe ask yourself:
In what can I be the first?
How can I be early with this thing?
It’s one of the most valuable questions I’ve asked myself.
Looking back it was a key reason why I was able to do $5M+ in revenue.
Now you may wonder…
What about search volume Jordan!?
Well…
I can make a whole keynote about it.
But to give you a nugget without the whole nuance
May you see this:
If you can be the 1st (EVEN with a crappy video) on a topic or celebrity with mid-high search volume you can go viral like me with only 90 mins of work.
Shortcuts DO exist.
People you look up to may say they don’t.
Maybe because they’re in love with the concept of “hard work”.
Maybe you too.
If so…
Maybe question your belief.
Or not.
Do what you want.
Really.
I mean that.
