I changed my title…
It worked.
My video went from:
5% CTR in the first few hours
→ to over 20% right after the change
→ to 12.9% CTR over the first month
My 2 title changes got me 1 million views.
Here’s what I did:
1. I used this free tool.
Not to count words.
But to check pixel width.
YES, YT cuts off your title at ±600 pixels
NOT by word count, but by character width.
So if your title gets chopped with a “…” you’re losing CTR %.
But my 2nd change turned out to be WAY more important.
Let me show you what happened…
Before the title change (first 5 hrs) 👇
• Click Through Rate (CTR): 6.96%
• CTR-to-view ratio: 32.2
• Impressions: 3,220
After the change (rest of Day 1) 👇
• Click Through Rate (CTR): 21.7%
• CTR-to-view ratio: 224.7
• Impressions: 22,480
What’s CTR-to-view ratio?
Views ÷ CTR
It shows NOT just how “clickable” a title is…
But how PROMOTABLE it is.
Because CTR is based on impressions,
But your views depend on what happens AFTER the click:
Watch time, keywords, freshness, traffic source, etc.
So while CTR shows “clickability”…
CTR-to-view ratio shows clickability + reach.
Here’s the BIG lesson:
A title isn’t just about being clicked.
It’s about being searched, promoted, and sustained.
Example 1 👇
CTR: 21.7%
Views: 4,876
CTR-to-view ratio: 224.7 (4,876 / 21.7)
Example 2 (diff vid) 👇
CTR: 4%
Views: 26,500
CTR-to-view ratio: 6,625 (26,500 / 5.4)
Now tell me…
Would you rather have a 21% CTR and 5k views?
Or a 4% CTR and 26k views?
EXACTLY.
So NO…you don’t need 12.9% CTRs to go viral.
And YES…you can blow up with a 3–5% CTR
IF you pick the RIGHT keywords.
