Today I learned a BIG insight.
After comparing the statistics of 200+ of my uploads.
Video duration > Title + Thumbnail + Hook
Video duration is more important than your title, thumbnail and intro COMBINED.
Is this 100% true? Isn’t there nuance? Let me share my insights of this morning 👇
PS: please take everything what you read next with a grain of skepticism as I have no insider knowledge (yet)
YouTube likely compares your video stats to other SIMILAR videos (NOT to every video on YT)
Example:
A random user watches mostly 3 types of videos:
1. MrBeast type entertainment videos
2. Comedian funny entertainment videos
3. How to grow on youtube educational videos
YouTube will rank ALL 3 type of videos on his home feed.
Let me say that again: YouTube will show all 3 type of videos.
It WON’T just show 3 comedian videos.
(Unless the person has ONLY comedian videos in his watch history, which isn’t the case in this example)
Here’s how that looks like 👇
Moving forward I try to stay away from the “Dead Zone”.
What is the “Dead Zone”?
To me they are long-form videos between 1:30 and 4:00 in duration.
Why?
After analyzing 200+ of my recent uploads.
And analyzing the top 35 creators in one of my niches.
I’ve rarely seen these video durations blow up.
On top of that I’ve recently uploaded 4 videos between 2:30 – 4:30 in length.
And they massively flopped.
If you know that 8 of 10 videos with 100K+ views are between 8:00 and 16:00 in duration…
Why would you create 20 minute videos?
Why would you create 3 minute videos?
I want to avoid it.
That’s why I created this sheet:
It shows me that I’ve used 779 words in my 4:42 video
And thus need 1,657 words to make a 10:00 video
If I speak at the same pace.
Now that I know that I need 1,657 words, I can write towards that in my script.
I’m not a fan of free speech time calculators.
As they’re only ±80% accurate.
And on YouTube having a 9:59 video VS a 10:01 can cause a BIG change in views 👇
